Do the things that you have to do now and the things that you want to do later

There is always a reason for everything you do in life, well the same applies to the youth of today, the born frees as we are called. The youth of today is three times more troubled then we were in the past. We are exposed to too many things mostly bad.

One of the reasons why the youth gives in to alcohol and drug abuse is because it is easily accessed, those who do not do drugs choose not to. We are not motivated to do good in this world because of the things that we are exposed to, the fact that the new generation is messed up has started somewhere, it has a pattern that can almost not be explained, because you cannot really say that is starts at home or the way that you were raised but it is how you want to portray yourself and how you want to live your life because it is yours and the way you live it is entirely up to you, it all comes down to YOU and nobody else but  you. Everything you do, you do because you wanted to not because your parents or your friends forced you to.

The term peer pressure is just an excuse we use to make ourselves feel better, to make us feel like we do not do what we do because we chose to out of our own free will but because we were "forced", so I say that there is no such thing as peer pressure, it is just a word. We live in a generation were teenage pregnancy is not a big issue anymore, were young children who haven't even reached the puberty stage promote themselves to being mothers, I can only imagine how our children's children will turn out to be. I say that the only way from this doomed world is when judgement day comes to action.

The most painful  thing is that the youth has to fight for every little thing, we had to fight for free education, because government fails to recognise that free education is merely a privilege but more or a less a right

It is a huge shame that we as the youth do not see the power that we have in our hands, it's a shame that we choose to not use the little opportunities that is being put before us to our advantage, we have to stand together and claim what is rightfully ours, and stop wasting our time on useless things that will still be there in the next 20 years or more.

  1. You know from my point of view, seeing what I have seen, I think people aren't being encouraged to realise the extent of their power. They are made to think that the stuff that changes the world is only for heroes and celebrities or people in high places. That's why we become self-destructive sometimes. And the people that make the headlines, the celebs and icons love it because it keeps their pockets full since they parade as the best. That is what we have to realise. We can't keep putting ourselves down for them to keep being in the limelight. We need to wake up.

  3. The youth of 1976 fought against apartheid we the youth of today are fighting our own different struggle which unemployment, racism, and free education which was promised to us in the Freedom Charter.

  5. I love the phrase "The term peer pressure is just an excuse we use to make ourselves feel better..." It shocked me to find out that young girls nowadays fall pregnant because they want to fit in.

  7. A good friend of mine once wrote on t-shirt sleeve that "when youth unite, mountains move" and that is why we need to mobilize, strategize and equip each other with survival skills, whether formal or informal.

Because reality is - We are on our own!

  8. We could blame ourselves all we want for how we have turned out but the media has a lot to do with how the youth behave, that and the lack of good role models. It is important to establish a sense of identity that is the only way to survive and not be consumed by all the negative factors we face as the youth of today!
